2019 3rd Round Pick (From PIT)

The Pittsburg Penguins announced that they are sending defenseman Ian Cole and prospect Filip Gustavsson to the Ottawa Senators along with 2 draft picks for 30-year-old Derick Brassard. Brassard is signed through the 2018-19 season, and he carries an average annual value of $5 million. Which led Pittsburg to land a deal with the Las Vegas Golden Knights who will retain 40% of Brassard’s $5 million in exchange for Ryan Reaves and a draft pick. Vegas will also send prospect Tobias Lindberg to the Penguins.

This trade moves another, second center to the team in an already deep position at Pittsburg. Brassard will most likely lead up the 3rd line, who has had Phil Kessel and Jake Guentzel at the wings. Pittsburg almost certainly is looking for another deep playoff run. Ottawa on the other had is clearing cap space by letting Brassard go, after acquiring Matt Deschene earlier in the year. Additionally, they received a highly ranked goalie prospect in Gustavson and a solid stay at home defenseman in Cole. Cole, 29, is a +64 in his 8-year career.

Red Wings Trade Petr Mrazek (G) to Flyers for 2018 4th and 2019 3rd round picks

With both Michael Neuvirth and Brian Elliott on IR Ron Hextall decided to trade for a goalie with NHL experience. Although this move was made in desperation due to the lack of depth at that position due to injury Mrazek has a career 2.60 GAA and a .912 Save Percent Average in his 166 games played over his 6-year career. This year Mrazek struggled with a record of 8-7-3 however the Red Wings were not helping their goaltending, averaging more points against than points for. On average Detroit conceded 3 goals a game which is the 21st in the league whereas the Flyers rank 15th on that same list.  Additionally Detroit has more points against than points for, unlike the Flyers.

Mrazek will take the helm for the Flyers with Lyon backing up for the foreseeable future. Neuvirth sustained a lower-body injury during the first period of a 7-4 win at the New York Rangers on Sunday. He will be out 4-6 weeks, and the Flyers announced that Elliott had surgery to repair a core muscle injury and would be out 5-6 weeks. This means that the Flyers playoff hopes will ride heavily on the performance of the newly acquired goaltender.

Maple Leafs Trade Eric Fehr (C) to Sharks for 2020 7th round pick

The Maple Leafs cleared not only cap room but also a roster spot by getting the 32-year-old veteran who is in the final year of his 3-year $6 Million deal. Erik Fehr is a Veteran 4th line center with a lot of playoff experience and penalty killing expertise. Fehr won the cup in 2016 with the Pittsburgh Penguins where he played in 23 games. The Sharks are in the thick of a playoff hunt with the hopes to return to the Stanley Cup Finals after their loss in 2015-2016.
